Meet Dr. Robert Schwartz

At this point, you’ve no doubt been considering some positive changes for yourself. That’s the first step. The next—finding the right doctor, someone who cares as much about how you feel as how you look. And rightfully so. Cosmetic surgery is an intensely personal decision, one that can change your perception of self and therefore your life. Dr. Schwartz begins here—listening to who you are beneath the skin and who you want to be—before determining how best to help you achieve your goals. Because a really good surgeon doesn’t operate on you. He operates for you, the whole person. Dr. Schwartz deeply believes this, practices this, and that’s why people from across the country seek him out for their plastic surgery needs—that and because Robert Schwartz is an exceptional plastic surgeon. But just as you had to find your way to Dr. Schwartz, Dr. Schwartz had to find his way to plastic surgery.

Robert Schwartz wasn’t going to make a good physicist. When he entered Yale University as an undergraduate, it seemed the logical choice. He had an aptitude for science and his overachieving family home in Montreal expected him to make a difference. But while his colleagues found beauty in the law of inertia—Robert was not equally moved. Rather, the most compelling force in Robert’s life had always been and remains people—his family, friends, and ultimately his patients. More than defining any laws of nature, it would be his ability to help redefine others that would be his greatest talent. Consequently, by his junior year at Yale, he had changed his major to pre-med and his focus to neuroscience. Graduating summa cum laude, he was awarded a Regents Scholarship for academic excellence at UCLA School of Medicine.

Only Robert couldn’t be sure of the med-school path. He needed time to explore his options and soon found himself working as a fashion model in Europe. Ironically, it was during this period—surrounded by so much classic art and so many classically “beautiful people”—that Robert began to question a different law of nature—the nature of beauty. How can it be defined and what is it that draws us inexplicably to one another? For Robert, the answer—like beauty itself—lies within each and every one of us. It would be the spark that revived his interest in medicine and eventually motivated him to complete his residency in general surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, devoting two years to full-time research in plastic surgery. This ultimately led to his selection for the plastic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, widely regarded as one of the specialty’s premier programs.

Today, based in Dallas and licensed and certified in Texas and California, Dr. Schwartz has emerged as a destination surgeon for patients across the United States seeking the highest level of individual care. “Plastic Surgery Today,” his popular radio show on Free-FM Live 105.3, also attracts listeners nationwide via Internet stream and podcast, and he has appeared as an expert on many national television shows including America at Night, The Yolanda Gaskins Show, The Marty Griffin Show, The Popoff Report and The Debbie Mandel Show. Having authored more than a dozen articles, Dr. Schwartz speaks frequently to professional groups on plastic surgery. He is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Medical Association.
