Buttock Implants — the New Craze? Not Yet, Anyway

Buttock augmentation has gotten a lot of publicity over the past year or two — but like a lot of media stories, it’s in the news more because it’s a new phenomenon than because it’s actually in high demand.

For every 50 women I see for breast implants, I see one for buttock implants. They have a level of popularity in South American countries like Brazil, for cultural reasons, but they have yet to become a frequently requested procedure in the United States.

That said, we have seen mild demand, mostly from the Hispanic and African-American communities, and we’ll see if that continues to grow as our cultural conceptions of beauty evolve. For the time being, however, they remain a niche procedure.
