What is EYELID SURGERY?

The eyes are an attractive aspect of the face that deserve to be seen; however, an abundance of skin on top or around the eyes can render an unflattering look. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Schwartz performs blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery) to lift and tighten the upper or lower eyelid, creating a look that appears softer and rejuvenated.

Countless men and women have eyelid surgery at Robert Schwartz Plastic Surgery in Dallas, TX to correct sagging skin, which helps with both function and appearance. Whether upper or lower, a blepharoplasty creates a younger appearance and can produce subtle yet striking improvements.

eyelid surgery IDEAL CANDIDATES

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that is popular among both men and women. During the initial consult, treatment alternatives will be suggested by Dr. Schwartz based on your conditions that need to be addressed. Ideal candidates wish to correct excess sagging skin and folds on the upper eyelid or puffy skin below the eye.

These conditions can cause functional problems that can hinder everyday life. For a rejuvenated facial appearance, eyelid surgery may be the right treatment for you. If you have excess hanging skin on the upper eyelid or bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can repair this to give you an improved appearance.

eyelid SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

During blepharoplasty, depending on the nature of the surgery, general anesthesia or IV sedation will be used. Eyelid surgery may be done on the upper eyelid alone, on the bottom portion, or both treatments at the same time.

Upper
Upper blepharoplasty assists in reducing the loose skin that droops over the eye and attains a more flattering look. An incision is usually made along the natural crease to remove skin and tissue.

Lower
Lower bleph is performed to reduce bulging, bloated skin underneath the lower eyelid. The incision is made below the lash line to remove fat, and the skin is gently lifted to create a flatter, smoother look. In some cases, a nonsurgical laser treatment can be performed to assist with discoloration, while injectable fillers can be used for additional volume and smoothness if needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT after blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery can last up to two hours depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. After surgery, you should allow yourself several days to rest. Cold compressions can help reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort. The results from eyelid surgery can last years, but keep in

mind the aging process does not stop. To maintain your surgical outcomes, nonsurgical treatments at Robert Schwartz Plastic Surgery (such as injections, fillers, and laser) can be performed to create a lasting, glowing appearance.

FAQ

eyelid surgery

I have read and agree to the FAQ terms of use.
Is it normal to have a sore throat after surgery?

Sore throat can happen after surgery. It is usually caused by the endotracheal tube the anesthesiologist uses to help you breath. It is somewhat more common in women than in men. The soreness is usually mild and goes away within a few days. A severe sore throat or one that lasts for more than a few days should be reported to Dr. Schwartz.

Can I donate blood before surgery?

Donating blood causes a temporary anemia. This usually corrects within 1-2 weeks. Nonetheless, we recommend that patients do not donate blood for at least one month before cosmetic surgery.

Some patients have expressed interest in donating blood for their own use, if needed. Since most cosmetic procedures are designed to produce minimal to moderate blood loss, transfusion is almost never needed. While you are, of course, free to self-donate blood, this would almost always be unnecessary.
